In 1923, he married Virginia Chase Steedman (b. 1874, Edina, Missouri). During their travels, the couple collected furniture and objects from many regions which they ed to furnish their Richmond residence, called Virginia Hoe.posed of a salvaged English Tudor-era priory, the hoe was gifted to the Virginia Historical Society in 1929.
