A set of nine Chinese famille rose sectional dishes with a fitted lacquer box dating from the late 19th century. The box features a design of a peacock with flowers. There are eight roughly triangular dishes featuring aquatic scenes of fish, crustaceans, amphibians, reptiles, and shellfish set against a wave ground. The central, square dish has a front-facing dragon among clouds as its interior design. Dimensions are: the central dish measures 1 inches tall X 4 3/8 inches long X 4 3/8 inches wide, 2.5 cm X 11.1 cm X 11.1 cm. The tray measures 4 1/4 inches tall X 13 3/4 inches long X 13 3/4 inches wide, 10.8 cm X 34.9 cm X 34.9 cm. All measurements are approximate. Condition: One dish has two chips. The rest of the dishes are in overall good condition. The box has large areas of breakage to the lid including loss to the lacquer, cracking, and chipping. A reminder that all lots are sold as-is. We have sought to record the changes in the condition of this piece after its initial manufacture as diligently as possible; however, as stated in our terms, condition reports are statements of opinion and not representations or warranties. Oakridge Auction Gallery bears no responsibility for any error or omission. Provenance: From Mr. Selvy in Seattle, Washington. Collected by his grandparents, who lived in China in the 1940s. Notes: High resolution photos can be found here.
