王道源 1896年出生于湖南。毕业于长沙第一工业学校，1914年官费留学日本东京美术学校，1923年任教于南京美专，1924年任教于上海东方艺专，1925年创办上海艺术大学，1930年创办上海艺专。抗战期间在上海、香港、澳门等地从事对日谍报工作。建国后历任华南文艺学院、中南美专教授。
Wang Daoyuan was born in Changde, Hunan and graduated from Changsha First Industrial School. He went to Study in Tokyo Fine Arts School in 1914 under the support of the government. Then, he became a teacher in Nanjing Academy of Fine Arts and Shanghai East Academy of Fine Arts in 1923 and 1924 separately. In 1925, he founded Shanghai University of Fine Arts and five years later he founded Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts. During the anti-Japanese war, he was engaged in intelligent work against Japan in Shanghai, Hong Kong, Macau, etc. After the foundation of People's Republic of China, he worked as professor in South China Art and Literal College and Central South China Academy of Fine Arts successively.
