Four Chinese Painted Pottery Figures of DwarvesTang DynastyThe first model is a highly detailed depiction of a broad-smiling foreigner with a mustache and beard, eyes and eye brows, the details of his hat and crown visible, with a bow in front and in the back, his hair exposed, his hands covered by his long belted coat holding a pouch with only his feet seen standing on a square base, covered overall with an unusual light pink glaze; the second model is of a man, well detailed, his face, nose, eyes and ears clearly shown, as is his square hat with a front bow, the hat covering the back of his head from which two long pigtails emerge, his detailed long belted pleated coat with pockets covering his hands clasped in front of him, his feet and shoes clearly defined, red pigments visible on the creamy glaze covering his entire body; the third and fourth figures are of nearly identical men models slightly hunched over with long coats, each with a strap holding a sack around their necks and down their backs, their hands covered by their sleeves, their feet exposed and standing on square bases, the body of one with a black glaze showing traces of red glazes on his face and body; the second covered overall with an orange red glaze and black pigment remaining on his hat.
