AFTER THE ANTIQUE, A LEAD MODEL OF THE WARWICK VASE PROBABLY EARLY/MID 20TH CENTURY32cm high, approximately 61cm wide overallThe Warwick Vase is an ancient Roman (2nd century and partially restored) marble vase with Bacchic ornament that was discovered at Hadrian's Villa, Tivoli circa 1771 by Gavin Hamilton. Hamilton, a Scottish painter-antiquarian and art dealer in Rome sold it to Sir William Hamilton from whom it passed to his nephew the 2nd Earl of Warwick form where it takes its name. It is now held in the Burrell Collection near Glasgow, Scotland.
