Kazim Ushag, Caucasus, around 1880, wool on wool, approx. 217 x 135 cm. Kasim Ushag are knotted by the semi-nomadic Kurdish tribes living in the Karabagh region. The powerful ornaments radiate similar originality and power as the neighboring eagle and cloud band Kazak. The patterns date back to the 17th century. The carpet is a particularly interesting and early example. The white central motif clearly shows signs of the early braided medallion.
