The artist divides the pictorial space into two areas, the upper one corresponding to the heavenly area, and the lower one the earthly area. In the centre, dominating the image, the form of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is outlined, the shape of which stems from a mystical current, in which the heart of Jesus was understood as the nucleus and example of divine love: as stated in the Gospel of Saint John: "Before the feast of the Passover, Jesus, knowing that his hour hade to pass from this world to the Father, having loved his own who were in the world, loved them to the end". Flanking the side areas, a whole procession of religious figures can be seen; on the left is the Virgin with her blue mantle, and on the right is Saint John the Baptist, characters that aremon in representations of the crucifixion of Christ. Behind the figure of Saint John, the profile of a man can be seen, whose crown may represent the image of King David. An example that shows that the figures in the upper area represent protagonists of biblical stories from both the New and Old Testament.The lower part of the painting depicts four women, all of them in a prayerful attitude, shifting their gaze towards the Sacred Heart. Although the faces of all of them are not visible, their clothing reveals that they are a representation of the four continents. This idea of representing the continents with religious scenes had always aroused the interest of the church, since, since the Middle Ages, they had represented the universality of the Christian message through the Magi.
