A Hand Painted Beaker By Anton Kothgasser Circa 1830's Depicting A CathedralInscribed depicting st. stephen’s cathedral Vienna Similar glass, nearly identical seen at the V&A12cm tallFOOTNOTES: Anton Kothgasser (1769-1851), formerly a painter at the Vienna Porcelain Factory in Austria, opened a studio about 1813 that produced finely painted glass beakers, mostly intended as smart souvenirs. This beaker, signed ‘A:K:’, depicts a view of St Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna, a popular subject of the time. Kothgasser employed a small team of painters who specialised in painting in translucent enamels that could be fired at relatively low temperature.
