焦竑（1541～1620），字弱侯，号澹园，学者称为澹园先生，江宁人。万历十七年（1589）进士，以殿试第一入官翰林修撰，皇长子侍读。与袁宗道、陶望龄、黄詹辉日夕相处，以介明理学自任。博览群书、严谨治学，尤精于文史、哲学，为晚明杰出的思想家、藏书家、古音学家、文献考据学家。性复疏直，时事有不可，辄形之言论，政府恶之，谪福宁州同知。岁余大计，复镌秩，遂不出。有《澹然集》、《焦弱侯问答》、《玉堂丛话》、《熙朝名臣实录》、《国史经籍志》等。
