The tall needlework having a black background with a spread wing eagle atop crossed American flags, shield, and banner “E Pluribus Unum” surrounded by thirteen stars. The center having two globes with identified land masses flanked by two oval photographs (Presumably Captain Daker and an unknown person) surrounded by needlework berry vines. The bottom third in needlework shows the single stack two mast white and red transport ship sailing left to right in white tipped greenish blue ocean with land masses on each end all under a nighttime sky. Housed in a black painted wood frame with glass. NOTE: The US Army transport ship Sumner was built in 1883 in Hamburg Germany. Purchased by the Navy in 1898, sold to the War Department and re-fitted as an Army transport ship, wrecked on a trip to Panama on Bar Negal Schoals December 1916. The ship served on the Puerto Rico intervention- The Cuba Invasion- The Philippine Intervention- and the Boxer Rebellion. Used “great circle” navigation under Captain Daker while returning from the Philippines (this is indicated by the two silk globes at the center of this memorial silk). SIZE: Sight: 57-1/2″ x 37-1/2″.
