Early 1st millennium B.C. A bronze socketted axehead with collared rim, two lateral D-shaped ribs, small lateral hoop, tapering body with flared blade and straight edge. Cf. This axehead, of Melrose type, is a well known type throughout Britain, western Europe and Ireland. It presents a general form similar to the Meldreth axes, though facetting is not present. This particular type belongs to the Isle of Harty variant, a south-eastern socketted axe characterised by a slender and concave side body and moulded D-shaped ribs.Condition Report: Fine condition.
