A PAIR OF EARLY VICTORIAN GOTHIC MAHOGANY SIDE TABLESCIRCA 1840Each with rectangular moulded top above a cyma reversa moulded frieze, on square faceted legs and octagonal black feet, the underside with label typed 'H.M.BROWN'; 1 in. variation in the depth and in the figuring of the top91.5cm high, 137cm wide, 65cm deep (2)Provenance: H.M. Brown Christie's, London, 9 June 2005, Lot 281The Gothic design of these pier tables relate to a pair of oak pier tables in the Dining Room as Scone Palace, supplied by Ballingals of Perth (H. Montgomery-Massingberd & C. Simon Sykes, Great Houses of Scotland, London, 1997 p.90).Both tables with marks, knocks, scratches and abrasions commensurate with age and use. Some old chips and splits. One table with later supporting blocks to the corners of the underside. A few darker marks, water marks, ring marks, and scratches to top. One top is slightly more faded than the other. Very minor opening to some joins. Section of moulding to one rear foot is detached but present. One rear foot to the other table with section of moulding lacking.
