FRANCESCO GAJARINI (ITALIAN, LATE 19TH CENTURY), A CARVED MARBLE FIGURE 'IL TRIONFO D'AMORE' DATED 1877 Signed Francesco Gajarini Sculp 1877 Firenze PS Marco No1, titled to front and reverse of plinthapproximately 49cm high, the base 49cm wideFrancesco Gajarini (or Gaiarini) studied at the Academy of Fine Art in Florence under Ulisse Cambi and Lorenzo Bartolini. Traditionally this figural group was presented as one of a pair alongside La Figlia Del Mare. For a pair by Gajarini, dating from 1878, see Christie's, New York, 19th century European Art, 28th April 2014, Lot 37 ($60,000).Presents well but with restorations including;one bird head, both beaks, two wing edges and one entire tail and one wing broken and restored. The scroll front of the chariot, the front foot of the cherub, most of the fingers and the head have been detached at the neck and restored . Other smaller restored chips here and there, some small chips and general scuffs remain throughout the piece. Some restored patches to edges of marble base. Surface marks and dirt engrained.
