A ruler and his consort enthroned with Krishna in attendance, Rajasthan, 19th century, opaque pigments on paper, depicted on walled terrace with a pavilion to the left and attendant with flywhisk, a goat leaping through flowering meadow below, within an orange outer border and single line of Devanagri text above, 32 x 22cm. Provenance: : Private collection of art dealer John Peter Warren Cochrane, art dealer and collector (1913-2004). Cochrane worked at Redfern Gallery in the late 1930s. In the 1950s, at Arthur Tooth & Sons in Bruton Street, Mayfair, he was active in bringing new European and American art to London, and in the 1960s he promoted a younger generation of emerging British artists. He worked as advisor to Christie's in the 1970s.
