A moulding block would have worn down after being applied several times over, so the decoration in earlier impressions would appear more rigid whereas later impressions would become more blurred. The current lot would have been pressed with a block in the mid-portion of its lifespan, striking a perfect balance in a subtle design that is just legible enough to make out fine details in the floral decoration.Compare with another small moulded example sold at Christie's Hong Kong, December 2, 2021, lot 2821.
