A BLUE DRAGON ROBE FROM EMBROIDERED SILK GAUZE FOR A GENTLEMAN China, Qing dynasty, 2nd half 19th ct. L. 141 cm, B. 202 cm Vivid blue silk gauze in leno weave, embroidered with silk in graduated shades of blue and few additional colors in counted stitches, gold threads appliquéd. Sleeve extensions and horse hoof cuffs of black silk satin embroidered with gold threads (probably added). Five gilt brass spherical buttons. Nine (one on the underflap) five-clawed dragons in clouds with bats and the attributes of the Eight Immortals.
