A CINNABAR LACQUER 'NINE BATS' BOXChina, late Qing Dynasty (1644-1912) to Republic period (1912-1949). Guangxu reign (1875-1908) mark and possibly of the period. Of irregular form resembling a bat, the cover deeply carved with nine bats flying amongst clouds and peaches, the sides with lotus sprays repeated above the foot, the interior and base lacquered black, the last with a golden six-character mark Da Qing Guangxu Nianzhi.Condition: Good condition with minor wear, surface scratches, small cracks, and minimal losses to lacquer.Provenance: German private collection.
