The Four Gentlemen (sijunzi 四君子), also known as the Four Plants of Virtue, include the plum, orchid, bamboo and chrysanthemum. Each plant represents a season and the four plants together represent a year. On this quadriptych, the theme is enriched with birds such as sparrows and flying butterflies. 2.
