A MARBLE-GLAZED OR ‘FAUX-MARBLE’ PORCELAIN VASE OF DOUBLE-GOURD SHAPE, HULUPING CHINA, POSSIBLY QING DYNASTY Resting on a spread foot, the body of flattened double-gourd shape surmounted by a short tubular neck with an everted rim. The two round parts of the body are linked together with applied handles. The outer part is all covered in light brown, dark brown and white to resemble a marble stone. H: 22 cm Notes: 1. Huluping (葫芦瓶 ) vase derives its form from a double gourd, a shape that was made possible by the invention of the Longquan Kiln during the Southern Song dynasty. As a symbol of fertility, the double gourd is considered to be good luck. It is also a Daoist emblem of immortality. 2.
