A PORCELAIN ‘BAGUA’ CUP OF HEXAGONAL FACETED SHAPE APOCRYPHAL MARK OF EMPEROR TONGZHI CHINA, LATE QING DYNASTY, CIRCA 1900 It rests on a short ring foot and has a faceted hexagonal body. The inner part and the base are enameled in turquoise. The outer part, with a white-glazed ground, is painted in gilt and iron red with a frieze of keyfrets as well as with Taoist tantric symbols known as Bagua. The base bears an apocryphal iron-red six-character mark of Emperor Tongzhi within a double square.
