A Derbyshire porcellaneous platter and a bowl, circa 1770-75A Derbyshire porcellaneous platter and a bowl, circa 1770-75Attributed to Cockpit Hill, the octagonal dish printed in dark blue with the 'Plantation' pattern with additional swans and various flower sprigs, 29.5cm wide, the thinly potted bowl printed inside with the 'Fence' pattern within five floral garlands, the exterior with the 'Plantation', 'Fence' and 'Cantilevered Garden House' prints, 20cm diam (2)ProvenanceGeoffrey Godden CollectionThis interesting bowl is decorated with a total of eight prints which also occur on porcelain and pottery associated with Derby. It belongs to an interesting class which is believed to originate from the Cockpit Hill works rather than the main Nottingham Road factory in Derby. For further discussion see Geoffrey Godden, English Blue and White Porcelain (2004), p.219. It is likely both of these pieces use prints created by Richard Holdship, formerly of Worcester.
