文房四宝，砚为其首，笔墨兼纸，皆可随时收索，可与终身俱者，惟砚而已，历久弥珍。古往今来，文人雅士无不以砚呈品、以砚铭心、以砚为友、以砚为藏、以砚为乐。米芾《砚史》有云：“得美石无瑕者必先为砚”。
在中国所产的四大名砚中，尤以端砚最为称着，本品便以端溪佳石精雕而成，作七弦古琴样式，线条挺拔流畅，端庄修长，比例恰当，格调高雅，颇为赏心悦目。
