Il s'initie auprès du peintre Georges Frederic Watts avec qui il participe aux fouilles d'Halicarnasse avant de se perfectionner à Paris dans l'atelier de Charles Gleyre. En 1877, Prinsep peint un immense tableau du Durbar de Dehli, commandé par le Vice-Roi des Indes, tableau qui sera exposé à la Royal Academy avant d'être conservé au Palais de Buckingham.British painter born in Calcutta in India, Valentine Prinsep is attached to the Pre-Raphaelite School. He began with the painter Georges Frederic Watts with whom he participated in the excavations of Halicarnassus before perfecting his skills in Paris in the studio of Charles Gleyre. In 1877, Prinsep painted a huge picture of the Delhi Durbar, commissioned by the Viceroy of India, which was exhibited at the Royal Academy before being kept at Buckingham Palace.
