, Tianqiuping, A gorgeous Chinese monochrome red flambé glazed bottle vase, called a tianqiuping, Qing Dynasty, late 19th century. The voluptuous body of the vase of globular form, rising to broad shoulders and a tall stick neck. The vase is covered in a stunning and complex vitreous oxblood red glaze, with areas of transmutation purple and blue (flambé), thinning at the mouth to a warm cream, and pooling lusciously at the foot.Turning the vase over, one can see just how thick and unctuous the glaze truly is, covering much of the foot, and showing signs of having been broken off the firing block. While this is typical for late Qing ceramics with this type of runny, flambé glaze, the incredible thickness of the glaze is remarkable.Good condition Provenance: Private collection of Nottingham
