炉作方鼎式，高大峻拔，沉稳端庄，方唇口，左右置冲耳，长方敛腹，四出戟，四面均以云雷纹为地，分上下两层铸饰相向成对的双夔龙纹及饕餮纹，平底下承四扁刀状夔龙足。
高濂在《遵生八笺》评古铜器时说：“方者以飞龙脚文王鼎为上赏”。此器正是仿文王鼎而作，上面的夔龙、饕餮纹甚至器形均来自文王鼎的原型。
尤为值得注意的是，此器原配熏盖，这在传世的明代鼎式炉中极为少见，炉盖高隆，透空满雕祥云纹，四条苍龙隐现其中，身躯韧健，鳞片毕现，龙首昂起，拱惟中央须弥座式盖钮，亦可见皇家气象。
