A Persian Bronze Kohl Iran, 16th century. with compressed globular body, and long tubular neck with wide everted floral rim, standing on four legs with bells between each. Height: 9.5 cm. Provenance: Dutch private collection Note: Kohl, also known as kajal or kajol is an ancient eye cosmetic, traditionally made by grinding stibnite for use similar to that of charcoal in mascara. It is widely used in the Middle East, Caucasus and North Africa, and South Asia as eyeliner to contour and/or darken the eyelids and as mascara for the eyelashes. It is worn mostly by women, but also by some men and children.
