Note The present work is a particularly charming work on paper by Van Everdingen, with the typically Dutch setting emphasising the artist’s place in the impressive canon of 17th-century Netherlandish landscape artists, alongside artists such as Jan van Goyen (1596-1656). The medium of watercolour allows the artist to convey a sense of movement and freshness, illustrated by the figures and trees which are both clearly being thrashed by the prevailing winds.
