Note: De Hoog’s work was shaped by the approach of the Hague School, whilst also being influenced by the interior scenes of 17th-century Dutch artists including Pieter de Hooch (1629-1684) and Johannes Vermeer (1632-1675). His works generally depict modest subjects in plain interiors, and can be interpreted as romanticised portrayals of harmonious family life, similar to those of his contemporary Bernard Pothast (1882-1966).
