Provenance: Anon. sale, Dorotheum, Vienna, 25 June 2019, lot 17. Note: Lake Garda was a subject to which Arnegge repeatedly returned. In the present work, his dramatic contrast of the mountainous background with the calm and flat blue of the lake imparts a grandeur to the landscape, whilst still conveying a sense of tranquillity. Here, the overwhelming proliferation of flowers emphasises the bounty and fertility of the region, with this sense of vitality reinforced by the vibrant pigments. Arnegge studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and trained under Robert Russ (1847-1922) and August Eisenmenger (1830-1907).Please refer to department for condition report
