The uppermost part is a gilt wood Ruyi framed jadeite screen. A depiction of Children-Sending Guanyin is inscribed with ink on the screen face. Right below the screen is a hollow decorative sphere, and a jadeite lampshade with a petal-shaped base. A jadeite hat rack supports the screen, with its ruyi-shaped foot carved with a dragon. Below the foot is a metal stand.Since Ming, European and Middle Eastern artisans manufactured artifacts by modifying existing Chinese porcelain and other articles, and wood and metal inlay was the most common modification method. Complex, decorative inlays usually improve the value of the artifact. Such is the case for this lamp- by combining a jadeite screen and a jadeite hat rack, products of the eighteenth to nineteenth century, along with gilt wood inlays, a new work of art that fit the European taste was created. This jadeite screen is similar to a jadeite screen in the Palace Museum collection. This lamp is on the larger side of size and has been well preserved to this day, is both functional and decorative.
