Hans-Peter GOETTSCHE (1927 - 2018) "Pegasus" sculpture - bronze, 79 cm x 69 cm x 68 cm, signed, dated and numbered I on the right side of the thigh, This is a unique one. provenance: private collection from the artist s family Goettsche was retrained several times and in 1941 began an apprenticeship as a wood sculptor. In 1948 he began studying with Edwin Scharff at the Landeskunstschule Hamburg. In 1951 he was spokesman for one of the youth groups protesting against the use of the island of Helgoland as a bomb site. He was arrested on the island, sentenced by a British military court in Lübeck to three months imprisonment without probation [1] and exmatriculated from the state art school. As a result, Goettsche was invited by the Academy of Arts in the GDR. So he went to East Berlin, where he was a master student of Gustav Seitz at the academy until 1955. From 1955 he lived and worked in Berlin-Köpenick as a freelance sculptor. He created especially in Berlin, but also in other cities, e.g. Gera, Leipzig and Wismar, a significant number of statues in public spaces and construction-related works, small sculptures, plaques and reliefs. The list of monuments and sculptures in the Treptow-Köpenick district of Berlin alone recorded nine works in 2004. Goettsche had a large number of solo exhibitions and participation in exhibitions, e.g. at the German art exhibitions or art exhibitions of the GDR in Dresden in 1958/1959, 1962/1963, 1967/1968 and 1972/1973.
