Ancient Egypt, New Kingdom, 18th Dynasty, ca. 1549 to 1292 BCE. A fine scarab amulet, hand-carved from hardstone of a jet-black hue. The insectile composition features a petite head, retracted legs, and a folded wing carapace on the top, and seven petite hieroglyphic symbols are incised along the base. The scarab is perforated longitudinally for suspension. Size: 0.55" L x 0.4" W (1.4 cm x 1 cm).
