Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 4th century CE. A wearable ring shaped from 83.71% to 83.90% gold (equivalent to 20K+) with a smooth shank bearing a pair of petite spheres atop each terminal. Inside the ovoid bezel is a hand-carved shell inlay depicting the youthful, winged god Cupid (Greek Eros) on the right as he extends both hands towards the head of a stylized creature, perhaps a goat or a sheep. The creamy white shell details are presented in low relief and nicely contrast against the naturally sandy pink background.
