Southeast Asia, Vietnam, Anamese, ca. 15th to 16th century CE. A lovely pair of stoneware dishes painted with the traditional blue-on-white style with loose strokes creating an abstract foliate motif in the center of both. These were allegedly discovered in a shipwreck, and one has remains of calcified marine encrustations from clams or barnacles on the surface. Size: 7" Diameter x 1.25" H (17.8 cm x 3.2 cm) Provenance: ex-private Bishop Family Trust collection, the Trust of the late Bill Bishop, a noted antiquarian with shops in Scottsdale, Arizona and Allenspark, Colorado, USA, acquired before 2010 All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
