Irving Penn (American, 1917-2009) "New York Still Life," 1947, color photograph depicting a composition with fruit, grains, and vessels, unsigned, with a beige mat housed under glass in a white wood frame. Image: 14" H x 18.5" W; frame: 19.5" H x 23.75" W x 0.75" D. Provenance: Property from the estate of Advertising Executive Bernard "Bill" Eckstein. Note: Though the piece is unsigned, it was by repute a gift to the family from the artist. Eckstein had worked at Paula Green Advertising, Saachi and Saachi, and Gray Advertising. The black and white platinum palladium print of "New York Still Life" is listed in "Irving Penn: Beyond Beauty" as Plate 46, printed as an edition of 65, and numbered 1988.83.41.
