People's Artist of the Ukrainian SSR.Valentin Gavrilovich Litvinenko was born on August 28, 1908 in Kremenchug.The artist’s childhood passed in the Poltava region, in the village of Deymanovka.From 1929 to 1930 he studied at the studio of N.S. Samokish in Simferopol.From 1932 to 1934 he studied at the labor faculty at the Kharkov Art Institute.In 1934 he moved to Kiev and entered the newspaper "Komsomolets of Ukraine" as an artist and retoucher. In it, a young graphic artist places his cartoons, definitely and sharply revealing his talent as a satirist and comedian.From 1934 to 1935 he studied at the studio of I.F. Seleznev.In 1941, V.S. Litvinenko was invited to work in the satirical journal Pepper.During the war, his work was entirely devoted to satire - a satirical leaflet, a newspaper drawing, a poster. The compositions "Winner", "1942 in Ukraine" were distinguished by sharp dramatic expressiveness, and their individual style was already reflected in their performance.The activity of the cartoonist continues in the post-war period - in 1954, the artist creates a series of “Disappearing Bird Varieties”, which figuratively personifies human vices and weaknesses in the images of birds.Litvinenko is engaged not only in satirical graphics, but also is a major master of Ukrainian book illustration. The cycles of illustrations performed by him to folk tales and to the works of classics of Ukrainian literature - Lesia Ukrainka, I. Franko, L. Glibov and others are most popular.The artist throughout his career creates easel graphic works. Litvinenko is a master of color and black and white linocut, works in the technique of watercolor and gouache.Member of the Union of Artists of the USSR.Participant of art exhibitions: republican - since 1944, all-union - since 1946, foreign - since 1956.Personal exhibitions were held in Kiev, Moscow and Leningrad.Since 1958, Litvinenko V.S. - "Honored Art Worker of the USSR"."People's Artist of the Ukrainian SSR" - since 1960.In 1969 he was awarded the Gold Medal "Fighter for Peace" of the Soviet Peace Committee.He was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, Certificate of Honor of the Presidium of the Supreme Council of the Ukrainian SSR.Works of Litvinenko V.G. presented in the National Art Museum of Ukraine, in numerous museum, gallery and private collections in Ukraine and abroad.
