拍品原函旧装八十卷十六册全，品较佳，每册首尾具有万年红护纸。张之洞于光绪十三年（1887年）六月创办广雅书院之后，还在十月奏准创立广雅书局。是书即创办之初所刻。广雅书局当时的盛况：“局中前后东西校书堂，屦迹常满，日事铅椠，互相考订。文襄公于政务余暇，时莅其间。公既振兴文教，凡四方珍异孤本，莫不麇聚纷来，复经诸通人辨别，故所刊无俗本，无劣工。其选择之精，校雠之善，当世久有定论。”
