邓尉山位于苏州城西南三十公里处，吴中区光福镇西南部，因东汉太尉邓禹曾隐居于此而得名。邓尉山一带是江南著名的探梅胜地，名为“香雪海”。是书为谢氏采集吴郡名流吟咏邓尉探梅之作而成。谢家福（1847―1896），字绥之，号望炊，室名望炊楼，吴县人，苏州电报通信的创始人。
