是碑与《郙阁颂》、《西狭颂》并称“汉三颂”。结字纵横开阖，挺劲大方，素有“隶中草书”之称。其书风天真流露，极飘逸新奇，淸王昶等称为汉人极作，习隶者必学之范本。杨守敬《平碑记》云：“其行笔真如野鹤闲鸥，飘飘欲仙，六朝疏秀一派皆从此出。现存此摩崖石刻最早为明拓本，极为少见，而且多涂描。清初至乾隆拓本，第二十一行“高”字下半残泐。至清嘉庆道光年，崖壁经剜洗，“高”字下“口”部已补刻添出。本拍品剪裱装，廿一行“高”字下“口”未剜出，十七行“春秋”二字未损，墨色浓郁，棰拓清晰。为难得早拓之本。
