It forms in metamorphic rocks from the alteration of plagioclase feldspars. Not well known among the general public as a gemstone it is, nonetheless, a desirable stone for collectors. Its luster is superb and, with a Mohs hardness of 6.5, it would be of sufficient durability to be mounted as a pendant. The present, large oval cabochon of well-saturated golden brownish-orange scapolite, has a high dome with a polished side. It was cut en cabochon specifically to reveal the cat's eye effect at its apex. Weighing approximately 34.13 carats and measuring 24.14 x 18.97 x 10.86mm None
