7th century B.C. An impasto kylix with carinated body and everted neck, two integral D-shaped handles with tapering, round-section bodies, and a shallow foot; decorated with geometric shapesposed of pricked dots around the shoulder and handles. Cf. for a similar kylix (in bucchero) Camporeale, G., La Tomba del Duce, Firenze, 1947, pl.91; cf. for the shape Villard, F., Vallet G., 'Megara Hyblaea' in Mélanges d'archéologie et d'histoire, tome 67, 1955. pp. 5-32. 422 grams, 19 cm wide (7 1/2 in.). Acquired 1980s-1990s. Collection of M. Cummings, Lincolnshire, UK. Similar specimens, sometimes in fine bucchero, have been found in great quantities in the Southern Etruria and Cere. The shape is that of the Ionic c, type A according to the classification of Villard-Vallet, with an evident accentuation of the tense course of the cup's profile. Obviously the bucchero imitations would have been made in the Etruscan centres which imported the Greek models.
