Cromerian Era, 800,000 years B.P. A group of rare and unusual UK cave bear (Ursus deningeri) bones in original cave matrix, perfect for study and preparation practice. 230 grams, 81 mm (3 1/8 in.). From Westbury sub Mendip, Somerset, UK. Private British collection, 1980. Private Shropshire, UK collection. The Westbury Upper Mendip caves, near Bristol, UK, provide a unique snapshot of life in the late Pleistocene Cromerian Europe, with numerous mammal fossils found within the cave subgroup. Ursus deningeri is the UKs cave bear, much rarer and older than the continental European U.spelaeus. Literature: See Andrews P and Turner A, Life and Death of the Westbury Bears, 1992, Annales Zoologici Fennici, Finnish Zoological and Botanical Publishing Board. [No Reserve]
