PRATT HUANG DING (1660-1730)Summer Mountains after Huang Gongwang, 1710 Hanging scroll, ink on paper, dated gengyin , inscribed and signed Duwang Huang Ding , with three seals of the artist, Huang Ding zhi yin , zungu and yushan ,with one collector's seal. 50 x 20 3/4in (127 x 52.7cm) 黃鼎 仿黃公望夏山圖 水墨紙本 立軸 一七一〇年作 Provenance Purchased at Jiuhuatang, Hong Kong, 1960's 來源: 1960年代購於香港九華堂 Huang Ding was from Changshu, Jiangsu, the hometown of Wang Hui (1632-1717). During their lifetimes, the two artists were considered rivals, as Huang Ding studied with Wang Yuanqi (1642-1715) and as such is considered a member of the Luodong school. Huang Ding was known for successfully transmitting the style of Yuan Dynasty masters, and this lot is in the style of Huang Gongwang (1269-1354). Theposition is mainly adapted from a work attributed to Huang Gongwang that was copied as the sixteenth leaf of Xiao Zhong Xian Da (To See Large Within the Small), the album associated with Dong Qichang (1555-1636) that served as sourcebook of early models for artists in the Seventeenth century and thereafter.
