PROPERTY FROM THE ESTATE OF JUNG YING TSAO CEN XUEGONG (1917-2009)Boat on Rapids, 1983 Hanging scroll, ink and color on paper, dated guihai , dedicated to Zhongying , inscribed and signed Xuegong with four artist's seals Cen shi , Xuegong , Jinxiu hesha , and Saishang ren . 26 5/8 x 16 5/8in (67.5 x 42.5cm) 岑學恭 急流勇進 設色紙本 立軸 一九八三年作 Provenance: Acquired directly from the artist Born in Inner Mongolia, Cen Xuegong studied art at National Central University, Nanjing, graduating in 1944. He was a student of Xu Beihong and Huang Junbi, and became famous in China for his dramatic depictions of the Yangzi River gorges. In the 1980's a chance meeting between the artist Cen Xuegong and art dealer Tsao Jing Ying would develop into a lifetime friend. Mr. Tsao's appreciation of Cen Xuegong's creative talent allowed the San Francisco-based dealer to broadcast the artist to a new, North American audience. The present lot was offered was a gift from the artist to Mr. Tsao in 1983.
