Hirado Blue and White Porcelain OkimonoJapan, 19th/20th century, structured with three rectangular blocks decorated with floral sprays and landscapes in underglaze blue, surmounted with an applied design with a lotus flower flanked with two shishi lions standing on hind legs, ht. 5, wd. 10, dp. 3 1/2 in. Provenance: A family heirloom collection mostly formed in the 1900-20s by Dr. Frederick Whiting (1821-1946). Dr. Whiting was a philanthropic otologist/professor of Clinical Surgery in Otology at Cornell University who authored the book, Modern Mastoid Operation. He was also known as a collector of American painting, medallic art, and Asian porcelain.
