中国以农立国，而牛善事农，《山海经．海内经》载：“稷之孙曰叔均，是始牛耕”，牛自古既是风调雨顺，国泰民安之象征。本品即以白玉整雕童子牧牛图，用料颇丰，立体圆雕而成，端庄大气。牛做伏卧状，角弯如月，身躯魁伟，长尾卷曲回搭后腿，神态温顺宁静，安然自若。两童子持禾戏于牛背之上，全器雕琢写实，尤重细节表现，碾琢精细入微，形神毕肖，足见其高超雕刻工艺。
