He began adding antique clothing and jewelry to the inventory and moved the store to the Upper East Side in the 1970s. In 1986, Mondschein changed his name to Fred Leighton. Leighton lent antique pieces to celebrities to wear on the red carpet and in movies which helped popularize the brand. The company was sold in 2005 and then acquired by Kwiat in 2009.
