作者简介：钱泳(1759-1844)，初名鹤，字立群、台仙，号梅溪、梅花溪居士。斋号履园、写经楼、二邕斋、樊古楼。江苏金匮(今无锡)人，寓居常熟。嘉庆、道光年间著名学者，精研金石碑版之学，工八法，擅长篆隶书。曾游历毕沅、秦震均、张井等人幕府，与翁方纲、汤贻汾、包世臣等有交谊，亦与北京诸王贵卿有所交往。一生以访碑、刻帖、著述为事业。得其残石数十种，俞樾言之梅小岩中丞，出白金百两，嵌之杭州诂经精舍之壁。惟诸碑中讹字甚多，泳未能一一正之。清蒋宝龄《墨林今话》：“梅溪工于八法，尤精隶古。”清齐学裘《见闻随笔》：“钱梅溪能诗，工书缩本唐帖，至其分书，一味妍媚，不求古雅，名虽远播，终不近古。”
