The dish centered with rockwork, various flowers and bamboo, with two birds perch upon the top of the rock, all inside a quatrelobe reserve, surrounded by lotus sprays against scroll-incised yellow-glazed ground; the yellow enamel to the reverse incised with two sinuous dragons pursuing flaming pearl, gilt rim, underglaze blue six-character mark to the underside; the teapot of slender form, decorated with quatrelobe reserves enclosing lotus, chrysanthemum, and bat, with floating round medallion filled with flowers and birds, against a yellow-glazed scroll-incised ground, four-character square mark to the underside.(Dia(dish): 6 9/16 in., H(teapot with cover): 6 3/4 in.)PROVENANCE:Property formerly in the collection of Harry J. Haon II (1901-1989), thence by descentHaon was employed by E.I. du Pont de Nemours &pany, and was promoted in 1954 to the Foreign Relations Department as Manager of the European Office, London, England, until his retirement in 1962. Mr. Haon continued to live part-time in London into the late 1970s. It is believed that many of the Asian arts in his collection were acquired during this time in London.
