Ltd.,2011年5月11日 Trompe l'oeil coral-glazed porcelain waterpots or washers, simulating coral, were made during the 18th century, as can be seen in an example in the British Museum, London (acc.no.Franks.95.+A), demonstrating the admiration of the prized material. Coral-made accoutrements for the scholar's desk, such as the present lot, were also made for the Imperial Court, as exemplified in a coral brush stand, Qing dynasty, in the National Palace Museum, Taipei, (acc.no.故雜000384N000000000). The carved decoration of squirrels clambering on grapevine represents the wish for ceaseless generations as squirrels are known for their reproduction prowess and grapes grow in large clusters and contain seeds.
